Sorare is a fantasy football game based on the Ethereum blockchain where users can buy, sell, trade and manage their own virtual football team. Each team is made up of 5 cards based on soccer players whose value and performance are connected to real life results. These cards take the form of NFTs that can be traded on Ethereum; By being able to prove their membership through blockchain, in addition to being unique and rare, users can obtain large sums of money by buying and selling cards.
History
Sorare was developed by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort in 2018 using the Ethereum blockchain to distribute and secure the acquisition of the cards. According to its developers, Sorare's mission is "to provide football fans, players and clubs with a platform where they can celebrate and share their passion for football." According to Blockdata, Sorare has raised $ 737 million in funding, being financed by some 30 investors, including soccer players Antonie Griezmann, Gerardo Pique, Rio Ferdindand, Oliver Bierhoff and Andre Schürrle; in addition to venture capital companies such as Accel and Benchmark.

License
Sorare has obtained an official license from 215 football clubs (including Real Madrid, Fútbol Club Barcelona, the K League, Atlético de Madrid, Liverpool FC, or Paris Saint-Germain), which allows him to use the image and name of their players, in addition to giving their cards an official mark. Sorare has expectations in the future to increase the number of officially licensed teams to have more players available in his collection. In exchange for being able to use the image of footballers, the benefits obtained by issuing a letter are obtained by licensed football clubs or the players themselves, Sorare only taking commissions for the sale of cards.
How to play
To start playing Sorare you just have to register in the game to get 10 random community cards. During this process, you have to choose the name and logo of your football club, join a league for beginners (or managers), select your 3 favorite football clubs to get cards from players belonging to them, and finally you have to compose your own team. With these free cards you can only participate in the basic tournaments, where no prizes are awarded. In order to win prizes (including ETH or unique cards) it is necessary to participate in exclusive competitions, in which you can only play if at least 5 special cards have been purchased.
Each team in Sorare is made up of 5 players: a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder, a forward, and an extra player of any role. From among these 5 players it is necessary to choose a team captain, who will get 20% more experience per week. Players earn points depending on their performance during real soccer matches. For example, a footballer who is currently playing in a tournament will score higher than one who is injured and cannot participate in matches. Therefore, factors such as the minutes that a footballer has played, the goals that he has scored, the assists that he has achieved, or the number of yellow and red cards have influence on the performance of a team in Sorare.
Another important factor in determining how many points a card can earn is the experience level (XP) it has accumulated. Each card gains experience through its use (typically, when one of your teams participates in a tournament, it gains 5% experience each week, while the captain gains 20%), the amount of time you have played with it, or your age. The more experience a card has, the more points it can earn and therefore the more valuable it is.
Rewards
At the end of each week, users will get rewards depending on which competition they have participated in and how many points they have obtained throughout the week. For example, in the All Stars Global Championship there are three prize tiers:
The threshold prizes are awarded to all those players who have obtained a minimum of 205 points (for a prize of 0.01 ETH) and 250 points (for a prize of 0.02 ETH).
Those players who have finished in the TOP 10% are awarded a single random card.
The TOP 3 best players are awarded large sums of ETH in addition to a unique quality player.
In order to participate in championships, it is necessary to complete a series of minimum requirements. Competitions can be Limited, Rare, Very Rare, and Unique; To be able to participate in these you need 5 limited cards, 5 rare cards, 5 very rare cards, and 5 unique cards respectively. Anyone can participate in the common and training championships, and to participate in the weekly championship it is necessary to have previously obtained 50 points in any other championship, and any type of card can be used in this.
Cards
A limited number of cards are created for each licensed soccer player in Sorare: 1,000 Limited, 100 Rare, 10 Very Rare, 1 Unique, plus an indefinite number of Valueless Beginner Player Common Cards. Thanks to the Ethereum blockchain, each card is unique, exclusive to its owner, and impossible to duplicate; therefore, the rarer a card, the more valuable it is. There are three different ways to get cards:
By participating in tournaments, if you get a specific number of points or finish among the best teams at the end of the week, you can get both cards of different rarities and ETH.
In the Sorare market you can buy new cards, recently issued by the platform. To obtain them, it is necessary to participate in a bidding process, with an initial price established in ETH (although they can also be purchased with dollars).
In the secondary market of Sorare you can buy and sell cards, being the users themselves who negotiate the price of a card.
The grace of Sorare is the ability for users to earn money both passively by participating in weekly tournaments and competitions and through trading. Cards change in value constantly due to their experience level or due to the player's performance in real life. For example, a player who is not participating in the current league will have little value, but could be more active in a future session, increasing his value. Those who are soccer fans or who have reliable sources of information can develop long-term strategies to earn big profits.
